Every visit to Chatham throws up more detail and insight to add to the Chatham Placemaking Project –
The open yard seen through the bridge / viaduct is the former Scott’s timber yard site.
There is some real potential for change of pace here if the arches could be opened up to new local businesses – coffee / food / cyclists –
Was there a hardware shop in one of the arches opposite The Chatham Motor Company garage?
Tony – sorry to only just be replying to your question – the answer to which unfortunately is, I don’t know ! The only businesses I know that used the arches were the Fire Brigade, on one side – and the barber in the bogs on the other – please let me know if you do manage to find out something. We are still working on the project and all information regards the history of the route is very much appreciated.
Are you involved in Chatham History?
Thanks – Chris
